I haven't touched oil paints in years and I haven't touched oil paints that were not black and white in more years. And it has been even longer still since I worked on canvas. So what do I do to try and ease my way back into oils? I paint a 30"x40" piece in full color on canvas. It was damn fun and took way too much time since I had to relearn a lot. Mostly I had to relearn patience. Let me know what you think/what I should try next time. Keep in mind that the picture has a glare at the top making the head look gritty when in real life it is fairly shiny. I am still learning how to take photos of my work as well. Good bye.
Edit: Worked on it some more. It was too flat before.
This has a lot more weight and almost depth to it than some of the past stuff. If I had a laser pointer I would be more specific on where things work and where stuff could use a little more attention.
Keep exploring the oil paints again and see what new or old techniques pop up in painting. I think the light blue could use a tinge more of depth, but the cartoon of the bear versus the realist approach of the man inside it makes me happy.
I love this, I've always had a hard time working with oil paint, so I usually stick with acrylic or watercolor, but this makes me want to pick up oil paints over again. This is brilliant, the colors and the details throughout the whole painting, I like that it's simple, yet it can be interperated in so many different ways.
So basically, you are an amazing artist, and I need to pick up on oil paint again. And get a scanner and post things on this website other than little sketches. good day, C:

We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
